MMORPG

What is an MMORPG?

A MMORPG stands for “massively multiplayer online role-playing game”. It is a role-playing game where a multitude of people act simultaneously. It is important to know that an MMORPG does not stop when you leave it and turn off your machine. This is why it is called a persistent game.

There is also usually a social aspect to the MMORPG. Gamers often play in groups, forming so-called guilds and clans. MMORPGs have many themes. For example, a game can be medieval fantasy, post-apocalyptic or Asian.

Many of today’s PC games can be played offline (this means without being connected to the web or network) or online, or even a mix of both. An offline title is often played by a single gamer. Of course, these titles can also be played by a group of gamers at the same time, on the same network. However, most of the time, multiplayer PC games are played on the web. Some well-known MMORPGs are Battlefield 1942, CounterStrike and Unreal Tournament. These three titles are all first-person action games.

Progression in an MMORPG

In many MMORPGs, the main objective is to advance your character. There are various ways in which your character can progress. During the evolution of the scenario, the character evolves in a virtual universe according to a predefined plot. The scenario of an MMORPG is defined by algorithms. However, some free MMORPGs allow their players to make a multitude of career choices, while others are known to be extremely rigid. During the evolution of the equipment, during his various adventures, the gamer will have to evolve and optimise himself thanks to the acquisition of new items for his inventory.

During his evolution, a multitude of MMORPGs 2018 have taken up the system of experience points, with the aim of reaching new levels or skills giving the possibility for his character to optimise himself on many points. This evolution can be done in two different ways. The first is the completion of quests (missions offered by an NPC) and the second is the elimination of monsters managed by the environment. These two types of actions allow you to obtain experience points (XP), most of the time in proportion to the complexity of the mission.
