PvP is a term that applies mainly to role-playing video games, and allows gamers to fight each other through avatars that they manage. PvP usually ends with the death of the avatars that lost the fight. This point, seen as a negative aspect, has since evolved by means of a multitude of rules offering the possibility of avoiding abuse. Very present in MMORPGs 2018. To be successful in PvP, excellent gamers are unanimous: You have to follow basic concepts such as mastering combat for example.
PvP specifics
There are different types of PvP. One of them is Player killing, also called PKing, which is characterised by the action of eliminating a gamer’s avatar without their permission. It is only possible in titles with “open PvP” where, at any time, one gamer can attack another without warning. The death of a character in an online game is usually accompanied by a so-called malus. This can materialise in various ways, such as the loss of experience or the loss of character items. In PvP, the permanent death of a character is rather rare, especially in open PvP. An exception to this is the “super extreme” game mode. PVP is a crucial focus ofesport games. In this mode, the gamer has only one life, which makes the damage more severe.
The concept of dueling gives two or more gamers the opportunity to fight each other, with the permission of both parties, and following various rules. For example, PvP can include a specific location as well as limitations on the items used and the type of combat. In addition, PvP helps to regulate PKing, removing any surprise effect, and making the players’ chances more equal. In some titles, PvP via duel does not always end with the death of the loser but with a hit point penalty.
