Vikings: War Of Clans

Our opinion on Vikings: War Of Clans and its gameplay

With its experience in strategy/management, the Plarium studio has taken charge of the development of Vikings: War Of Clans. Available on mobile and PC, this MMORTS takes place in the world of the terrible Vikings. The game is accessible via web browser. Play as the Jarl of a Viking village, build your domain and train your troops to conquer new lands and progress in the PvP rankings.
Graphically, Vikings: War Of Clans has nothing to be ashamed of compared to the competition. The game displays a beautiful isometric 3D. The animations of your Viking village are also very good. You will quickly be drawn into this world full of life and colour. On the other hand, don’t count on the soundtrack to enhance your immersion. The music and sound effects, largely in the background, are of an extreme classicism.
You start your adventure with a quick and clear tutorial. Very complete, it will allow you to serenely grasp all the mechanics of Vikings: War Of Clans. Especially since you won’t have time to be idle: the game has a very pleasant lifespan since it is potentially infinite. Despite this, we regret the linear aspect typical of games of the genre, and here pushed to its limits.

Vikings: War Of Clans and the war on

Plarium’s title returns to the essential elements of the standard MMORTS. To manage your Viking domain, you’ll need a lot of resources. To build new buildings and improve old ones, you will need wood, stone and iron. These are the three basic resources. Then there is food and gold: the former is used to fill the bellies of the villagers and your combat units, the latter to buy just about anything you want.
You have the opportunity to improve the skills of your hero. The management of your hero is quite advanced for a game of this kind. You have to find better equipment for your hero and optimise his abilities via a skill tree.
In order to fight against other players, recruitment is necessary. Vikings: War Of Clans offers a large number of units, with a variety of possibilities. You can buy the services of mercenaries, horsemen, archers, scouts, demons… Once your Viking army has been formed, you will have to attack other territories, via a world map that can be accessed at any time. You don’t witness the battles directly, you simply get an overview of the outcome of the battle.
One notable problem, however, is that the battles are totally unbalanced. For example, you set out with 10,000 warriors to fight an army of 2,000 mercenaries. There is a good chance that the result will show the same losses on both sides. The resolution of clashes is the big drawback of Vikings: War Of Clans, which does not take into account the ascendancy of one player over the other through numbers.
As the name suggests, you can form clans and join with other players. The goal is of course to acquire more resources and increase the potential of your army.
Finally, we must admit that the free-to-play model is misleading. Indeed, you can do everything for free. But the game constantly pushes you to spend money to improve your game experience. And the more it goes on, the more money you are asked to spend.

Our conclusion on Vikings: War Of Clans

Plarium signs with Vikings: War Of Clans a well done MMORTS. Visually clean, complete and long, it promises a quality experience for fans of the genre. Unfortunately, the poorly optimised and above all unbalanced battles prove to be very frustrating, as do the incessant requests to invest real money.
