Battleborn

Introducing Battleborn

Released during 2014, Battleborn has created a mix of opinions among gamers. Indeed, some report the game to a real MOBA, others are afraid of a too great similarity with Overwatch andothers still, consider it as the clone of Borderlands, whether it is a pleasure or a great disappointment. As you can see, there is a lot of confusion surrounding this Gearbox Software title, as it falls under different genres, and it is hard to put it in a single category. Let’s find out more about the game’s characteristics. Previously known only for its Borderlands franchise, Gearbox Software is offering a new formula with its FPS/MOBA Battleborn. It’s a mix of influences built around one main idea: to present gamers with an FPS primarily built on a large cast of heroes with unique abilities. Coupled with this is a MOBA-based multiplayer mode, a cooperative story mode and other surprises.

Battleborn Features

Here are the main features of Battleborn:

  • Game world: As far as the world you will enter is concerned, it is similar, perhaps a little too similar, to Borderlands. The game takes place in a galaxy in bad shape, partly destroyed by the Jennerit, a warlike people whose leadership you meet the main antagonist of the game: Rendain. There is only one star left to save from these runes and you will be the last bastion against Rendain’s evil plans.
  • Characters: The studio has worked hard on its 25 playable heroes. The quality of the work can be seen in the characters’ personalities, their handling as well as their abilities and their well marked characters. They also benefit from full French dubbing. In addition, the various heroes are divided into different roles according to a classic scheme of complementary functions. In short, the characters are undoubtedly the biggest strength of the MOBA.
  • Multiplayer modes: The most interesting aspect of the game for many gamers, apart from the characters, is its multiplayer mode. The game offers three modes with different objectives: Incursion mode is inspired by the MOBA, Conquest mode is a classic team-based capture and defense of points, and finally, Fusion mode requires two teams of 5 players to escort waves of minions to an incinerator placed in the middle of the map. It’s a shame there are only three modes …

Our conclusion on Battleborn

Battleborn is a game that relies on its cast of twenty-five characters whose abilities, handling and design are well done. However, these heroes are propelled into a mix of genres that is very likely to suffer from a repetitiveness syndrome in the long run. With a story world that has no interest for the player, the experience of the game turns much more towards multiplayer. Despite some flaws, the FPS approach combined with some MOBA elements can seduce some team game lovers. So don’t hesitate any longer, especially since it has gone from being a pay-to-play game to a F2Pgame !
